Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County President's Column From the July-August 2008 UUCMC Newsletter Hello. That seems the right word to mark this first time that I am writing to you through this column. The beginning of a dialogue opens a myriad of opportunities to share, to learn, to understand. I hope this is the beginning of an important dialogue that you and I will have over the next two years. What I would like to share with you is my excitement around the vision, mission, and covenant work we are all about to undertake. Proverbs tells us “without a vision, the people perish.” Sounds extreme? Well, consider for a moment what would happen if we lost sight of why we come together here at UUCMC. Likely no one would come together any more and the congregation would, in fact, perish. A vision guides us towards what we want to become. A mission expresses the value that we want to deliver. A covenant describes how we will be with and behave towards one another. The real power is in the process of determining what these are. And they are not static. They must be revisited and reconsidered every few years. We are well overdue. Everyone will have a chance to get engaged. But we could use some more help in facilitating this process. Come be a part of our Vision Team! -- Brian Murphy 732-842-3796 bpmurphy7@gmail.com |
